This is the most important decision in the form – the two windows below run on their own and show the difference. Watch the address bar: on a one-pager it stays put, on a multi-page site it changes.

What does that mean in practice?

One-pagerA single address. Menu items jump to a section.
Multiple pagesEvery topic gets its own address, e.g. /about.
Navigation
One-pagerVisitors scroll from top to bottom – nothing reloads.
Multiple pagesA click in the menu opens a new page.
Good for
One-pagerUp to about five sections. Beyond that the page gets very long.
Multiple pagesFrom about five topics, or when content is added regularly.
Search engines
One-pagerOne page that gets found for one main topic.
Multiple pagesEvery sub-page can be found for its own topic.
Adding later
One-pagerNew topics keep making the one page longer.
Multiple pagesNew pages are simply added without disturbing the rest.
Effort
One-pagerLess effort, ready sooner, cheaper.
